Education & Background.

Dr Storey obtained her PhD and MA in Forensic Psychology at Simon Fraser University in 2012 and 2009, respectively. She is currently a Lecturer in Forensic Psychology at the University of Kent.

Dr Storey is a registered Forensic Psychologist with the Health and Care Professions Council (PYL36700)

​

Her expertise is in the assessment, management, and communication of violence risk with a focus on interpersonal violence including older adult abuse, intimate partner violence, and stalking. She has held grants from multiple agencies including Leverhulme, the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC), the Swedish Crime Victim Compensation and Support Authority and the National Initiative for the Care of the Elderly. She has co-authored 29 peer reviewed articles and over 60 conference presentations including keynote addresses and invited talks for organisation including Women’s Aid, Elder Abuse Ontario and Safeguarding Adults Boards.

Dr Storey was an Associate editor of the International Journal of Forensic Mental Health and serves as ad hoc reviewer for eight other journals.

​

She is the lead author of the Harm to Older Persons Evaluation (HOPE), an instrument designed to help predict and prevent older adult abuse (aka elder abuse). The HOPE is used in multiple jurisdictions by police, social workers and forensic nurses as well as to inform domestic homicide reviews.

​

Dr Storey has given multiple training workshops on the HOPE, the assessment of stalking, workplace safety and reporting the results of risk assessments in courts of law. Attendees include police, social workers, lawyers, nurses and mental health professionals.

​

She has received various honours for her professional work including the Christopher Webster Young Scholar Award from the International Association of Forensic Mental Health Services and the Young Alumni Award from Carleton University where she completed her BA with a double major in Psychology and Law in 2006.
